Blog: Shortlist for the 2013 Costa Book Awards

Costa has announced the 2013 Costa Book Award shortlists. The Costa Book Awards recognise the most enjoyable books published in the last year by writers resident in the UK and Ireland. The five categories received 617 entries, and the shortlists where chosen by five panels of three judges each.
Each winner, announced 6 January 2014, will receive £5,000. The overall winner, announced 28 January 2014, will receive £30,000.
Novel Award:
Judges: Clemency Burton-Hill, Broadcaster and Author; Eithne Farry, Reviewer, Critic and Author, Books Editor at Marie Claire; Gerard Woodward, Author and Professor of Fiction at Bath Spa University
First Novel Award:
Judges: Rachael Beale, Web Manager, London Review of Books; Fanny Blake, Novelist, Journalist and Books Editor of Woman & Home; Matthew Cain, Writer and Broadcaster
Biography Award:
Judges: Anne de Courcy, Author; Paul Ross, Broadcaster and Journalist; Caroline Sanderson, Author, Reviewer and Non-Fiction Editor of The Bookseller
Poetry Award:
Judges: John Burnside: Writer; Olivia Cole: Poet and Journalist; Daniel Eltringham: Poetry Buyer, Dulwich Books
Children's Book Award:
Judges: Jo Anne Cocadiz, Children’s Book Buyer, Foyles; Emma Kennedy, Author, Columnist and Scriptwriter; Philip Womack, Author and Critic
