Blog: Winner of the 2011 Scotiabank Giller Prize

The winner of the 2011 Scotiabank Giller Prize was announced Thursday evening at a black-tie dinner and award ceremony in Toronto. The largest annual literary prize in Canada, the prize awarded CDN$50,000 to the author of the best Canadian novel or short story collection published in English, and $5,000 to each of the finalists.

The shortlist and winner were chosen by an esteemed jury panel:

  • Annabel Lyon, award-winning Canadian writer and 2009 Scotiabank Giller Prize finalist
  • Howard Norman, American author, memoirist and Guggenheim fellow
  • Andrew O’Hagan, acclaimed UK playwright and prize-winning novelist
