Blog: Winners of the 2012 Governor General's Literary Awards
The Canada Council for the Arts has announced the 14 winners of the 2011 Governor General’s Literary Awards. The GGs, Canada’s national book awards, celebrate the excellence of Canadian writers, illustrators and translators. This year, ten out of 14 winners of the 2012 Governor General’s Literary Awards are women.
Each finalist will receive $1000. The publisher will receive $3000 to support promotional activity. Each winner will receive $25,000.
The awards are given to seven works in English and seven works in French. Listed below are the English language winners in the categories of Fiction, Poetry, Nonfiction, Children’s Literature (Text and Illustration).
The winner for Drama is Catherine Banks for It is Solved by Walking.
The winner for Translation is Nigel Spencer for his English translation of Mai at the Predators’ Ball by Marie-Claire Blais.
