At the age of 27 Pauline Baynes was producing illustrations for J.R.R Tolkien. He in turn recommended her to his friend, C.S Lewis. C.S Lewis commissioned Pauline to produce illustrations for The Narnia Chronicles. She is revered worldwide by sword-and-sorcery fans, who track her down via the internet. "I'm the only person left alive who was attached to C.S. Lewis and Tolkien ... I'm seen as the remnant who touched their garments."
