AwardAnnals:Award organization page
From AwardAnnals
An award organization page describes the methods and philosophy of an award, including all of the award categories and event calendar.

Naming convention
Page names are normally lowercase except for the first letter, but the name of an award is a proper name demanding each word be capitalized. The name of an award organization’s page should be the proper name of the award, such as National Book Award or Pulitzer Prize. Both of these awards are administered by an oranization with a name different from the award, but these pages are named for the award despite being called “award organization pages”. They are called such because they explain the organization of the award: event calendar, method of selection, prizes, categories, etc.
Thus, name the page after the official name of the award. If the award has nicknames, create a redirect page named for the nickname. For instance BAFTA is the common name for an award with a somewhat lengthy name, so both names lead to the same page. If an organization requires a register mark (®) follow their name, include it in the name and create a redirect page without the mark (see Edgar Award).
One of the most important parts of an award organization page is the event calendar. Pay special attention to it.
Format
The following example is based on the Hugo Award.

A few paragraphs with all of the five W’s and a big H: Who, What, When,
Where, Why and How. See the notes below for details.

== Notes ==
*Are there anomalous years, such as a year with two winners?
*Are there years where a finalists’s points are withheld in the annalentry?
*Are any years skipped for a category?

Discussion of parts
Images
The most compelling image is a photograph of the award itself. Sometimes the award organization will provide such a photo, but it is surprising how often they do not. Look for a site about one of the winners—they sometimes have photos of their trophy and are willing to grant permission to use it.
When uploading the photo, state the source and when permission was granted. The Hugo image provides a good example.
Define Award
The {{definework:}} magic word is a simply a list award categories. You can call the categories what you want, but the words attached to each category must be very specific.
The award category equals the wiki category containing the annals, and the wiki category must be the exact name of the category to which the annals belong.
The genres field equals a comma delimited list of genres that are translated into existing wiki categories and honor rolls.
{{definework:}} will output a table containing links based on the specified wiki category:
- the latest annal contained in the specified wiki category (2007)
- all the available annals in a popup (all).
- the honor roll (named for the wiki category) containing all the works honored by this award (Books)
- a similar honor roll of creators (Authors)
It will also include this award page in all the genre categories mentioned.
Notes
List anomalies that exist in the annals. These anomalies should also appear on the annal itself, as stated in the annal section below. Provide here a compendium.
Event Calendar
Insert an eventcal: containing dates for the major announcements, such as the shortlist and winners. Approximately one month after an announcement, change the appropriate eventcal one year ahead and set “confirmed=no”.
The Main Page (and perhaps other pages) subscribe to the site’s event calendar and list recent and upcoming events. It serves as a reminder to look for announcements of shortlists and winners. If an award has not published the date of its announcements, set “confirmed=no” so that the date will appear greyed out, indicating a need to occasionally check the award’s official website for a confirmation of the announcement date.
Propaganda[1]
If the award organization’s website has some nice text about the origin, history, and/or philosophy of the award, obtain permission to reproduce it and put it here. Add a reference to the heading citing the source and permit. See Philip K. Dick Award as an example:
== Origin of the Philip K Dick Award <ref> [http://www.philipkdickaward.org/archives/000002.html www.philipkdickaward.org]: reproduced with permission </ref> == == References == <references/>
Categories
There is only one necessary: Category:Awards.
