The Sundance Film Festival is the premier showcase for U.S. and international independent film. Held each January in and around Park City, Utah, the Festival is a core program of Sundance Institute, a nonprofit cultural organization founded by Robert Redford in 1981.

120 dramatic and documentary feature-length films are presented to festival audiences. Eligibility for the American Feature Film Competition requires a world premiere and at least 50 percent U.S. financing. Eligibility for the World Dramatic Competition requires a U.S. premiere.

A panel of distinguished jurors selects a film in both the Documentary and Dramatic categories to receive the Grand Jury Prize. Audience Awards are bestowed upon films based on the results of ballots cast by Festivalgoers at the theatres after a screening.

• Award Annals lists only feature-length films and presents the Grand Jury Prize as the ranking prize.
• In 2006, Quinceañera won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award in the Dramatic category.
• In 2009, Push won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award in the Dramatic category.
