Somewhere in the cosmos, inquisitive, utterly un-human aliens reach out, seeking intelligent life, sending greetings and knowledge encrypted within microscopic packets of genetic data. For when it reaches Earth, the Kasaran virus can’t completely adapt to human biology. Instead, it transforms into a plague called the Pandemic that annihilates billions of humans at random. And when the Pandemic ends, the Earth is changed forever…
In the aftermath of the Pandemic, those immune to the alien virus are mourning the deaths of their families, friends, and loved ones. Traumatized by the collapse of civilization, they are enraged that aliens have destroyed their way of life.
But everyone who contracted the virus and lived has also been changed. Known as the Pans, they are compelled by an urge to explore the universe.
